Janus Leviathan

A video performance made in collaboration with Anastasia Savinova. We spent a week at Holmön, developing the project Janus Leviathan - the Sea Monster, collecting washed up debris and attaching it to a fishing net that became the costume for our moving image performance. Janus Leviathan relate to pollution and trash of the oceans, taking on a mythical form.

The Wave and the Womb

In July 2019 I undertook a sailing expedition heading from Berneray to St.Kilda. The residency presented an embodied invitation into sea and island ecologies atmospheres and terrains. Using the land and seascapes as a research arena, the artist approach to topographies of remoteness, liquidity, navigation, migration, isolation and communication.

The sculptural installation The Wave and The Womb consists of carved wood, thread of seashells/pearls, and the inbuilt sound of a text recital, written shortly after the trip to St.Kilda. Beatrice recounts the voyage at sea,the embodied and metaphorical ways of being moved by the waves to the cosmological beginnings of elemental forces. The installation consist of a clay sculpture, as an aquatic form titled; Treasure Trove. As well as the publication Hydrobody a printed publication with landscape photos from the expedition.

Beaver Rituals

Refuging Toolkit is a group exhibition that opened in 2024 with the artists that participated in the Refuging residency in spring 2023 at Rejmyre Art Lab. We explored the theme of Refuging from different angles and perspective of nature and identity. I explored wood carving as a form of refuging bringing me closer to the more that human, the beavers in particular. As an artist working with craft the process of being with the material is important, and as I found wood trunks in the area- I started to carve organically following the shapes of the wood- this created pockets in which I placed bits of glass. As the residency was tightly knit with the glass factory we were invited to bring it into our process, I was delighted to pick left overs of glass to be part of my work.
