Vandremelodi

Konsthallen i Luleå 02.09 - 05.11.2023, supported by OCA (Office for Contemporary Art Norway), Helge ax Johnson and Luleå Municipality

The exhibition consists of an installation of four chairs with sound stations, a figure in wood and a film. The exhibition draws from the surrounding nature in Luleå, as I´ve been wandering the forest and recorded sound from ice sheets in rivers. The prominent topics are folkloric narrative, the nature wanderer, and queer ecologies. In the film I am taking on the character of a Kjerring recounted in many Nordic tales wandering the snow plains, playing the harmonica, and humming melodies. I am interested in the mundus inversus motive that recur often in folkloric tales and songs where the subjective roles are turned upside down, the main character might be a woman, child, an animal, or nature itself. For me as a person invested in the human body and nature with a queer identity find this very relevant. The film also has combined clips of the rivers and ice formations in which the sound is recorded. I´ve worked with oak wood and made four chairs by hand that are connected to a sound station in wood with fish skin pockets and glass bubble with sound. In the glass bubble one can hear the curious sounds of river water meeting ice sheets and bubbles. In addition, there´s a large figure in wood- with wool costume resembling the folkloric character of a kjerring. The exhibition have had support from Luleå Municipality, Helge Ax Johnson and OCA (Office for Contemporary Art Norway).
